King River Rafting offers one day white water rafting experiences from Queenstown and Hobart in Tasmania. A fantastic, adrenaline filled rafting gift voucher idea from Your Market Place!
From Queenstown the ‘King for the Day’ trip is a 20 km raft trip through a remote West Coast Gorge on the King River. You’ll start at Newall in the midst of the West Coast Range and finish at Lowanna near Macquarie Harbour. You will travel through dense temperate rainforest bursting full of huon pine trees. The stories of human history in the area are constantly reinforced by the evidence of past mining endeavors as nature slowly reclaims its own. A sumptuous lunch, a wave to the passing steam train and a glimpse of a white bellied sea eagle round out a memorable day.
From Hobart, King River Rafting offers both full and half day raft trips on the Derwent River upstream of New Norfolk. As well as morning raft surfing at one of Hobarts southern beaches. The Derwent is a beautiful river flowing through rural countryside with peaceful reaches and small rapids. Both raft surfing and the Derwent River offer welcome relief from the hot summer days. This ‘Day on the Derwent’ also includes a delicious lunch.
Whilst all trips are full of adrenaline you’ll also get to enjoy the beauty and the wildlife of this beautiful part of Tasmania. All whilst appreciating it from a slightly different viewpoint!
A brilliant rafting gift voucher idea for that someone special who would love an adrenaline fueled gift experience!
Spend a summer’s day with King
River Rafting on the wonderful Derwent River, upstream of New Norfolk. The Derwent here is a beautiful river with
long peaceful reaches and gentle grade 1 to 2 rapids. The Derwent Valley regularly records
temperatures over 30 degrees in the summer months and a summer day floating
down the warm river amidst the tranquil rural scenery is the very best way to
experience the Derwent. Includes the Broken Bridge Rapid, training ground to Tasmania's elite canoe slalom team. Possibly catch
sight of the resident white bellied sea eagle or a shy platypus. Of
course there will be the famous King River Rafting lunch and hospitality.
Full day $140
Half day $100
Spend a morning at one of Hobarts great surf beaches surfing the big river rafts. An early start at 8 am from Hobart and back before the summer sea breeze sets in. We supply all the gear and bus transport form Hobart.

Steam – start your experience in Queenstown on board the historic steam train that has been traversing the inhospitable terrain for the past 118 years! Sit in comfort and enjoy the wilderness from the comfort of the restored heritage carriage and hear tales of hardship, the characters and how the terrain was tamed to allow Queenstown to sell its ore to the rest of the world.
River – admire the King River gorge and majestic rainforest from the comfort of your carriage….
Raft – leave the comfort of the train deep in the rainforest at Dubbil Barril and take the plunge into the King River and swap the comfort and luxury for an adventure in a raft as the qualified and experienced guides safely navigate the raft down the rapids of the King River. Enjoy lunch along the banks of this once mighty, untamed river and continue until you reach Macquarie Harbour where you will be picked up and transported back to where it all began , Queenstown.
The tour will leave Queenstown on the historic Abt Steam Train about 9 am, returning you to Queenstown about 5 pm.
King River Rafting offers the only regular one day wilderness rafting experience in Tasmania. From the 8.30 am start at the Silver Hills Hotel in Queenstown to arriving back there about 5 pm you will have had the very best of times.
From Queenstown we will take you to Newall Creek on the King River for your Tasmanian West Coast adventure.
Standing at Newall Creek you are in the midst of the West Coast Range in the King River Gorge. Hidden in the rainforest not far away are the remains the abandoned goldmine Harris Reward.
You are about to embark on a memorable journey through a temperate West Coast Tasmania Wilderness Gorge that will end as the river empties into the vast Macquarie Harbour. Huon Pine trees, old and new line the river bank. Wild life in the thick West Coast bush is always hard to see but you may catch a glimpse of a timid platypus or a subtle movement signalling a passing wallaby. The small birds of the forest are about and as you near the sea the White-bellied Sea Eagle may be soaring overhead. Evidence of past mining and man’s industrialisation will be everywhere, slowly rusting buck into the bush as nature reclaims its own. You will see the West Coast Wilderness Abt railway from another angle.
As you relax at the end of the day the memory of this 20 km one day journey down the King River will stay with you for ever, be it the exhilaration of the swiftly flowing gorge, the roar of the Sailor Jack Rapid or the serenity of the lower reaches this is a trip that is not to be missed.
This is a late afternoon tour ideally suited to those who may have already completed a train or cruise boat journey earlier in the day. King River Rafting will meet you about 5 pm in Queenstown or later at Tullah. This tour paddles canoes up the usually mirror smooth waters of the Murchison Arm of Lake Roseberry, with the bulk of Mount Murchison looming nearby and the ancient rainforest growing to the waters edge . The only ripples are often those from your canoe and the passing trout or platypus. Time for a rest and maybe a swim at the end of the lake before returning to the vehicles and an evening snack before returning to Queenstown on the spectacular Lake Plimsoll Road. We aim to be back in Queenstown about 9 pm.
King River Rafting will supply all the canoeing and safety gear. You will need your bathers, some shorts, sandshoes and a sun hat.
Departs Silver Hills Motel Queenstown 5 pm, returning about 9 pm.
