Shhh…Secret Tasmanian Beaches
I sometimes think that local Tasmanians forget just how spoilt we are to have some of the most amazing beaches in Australia (possibly the world) literally on our doorstep. My childhood memories are leaving home in the morning with a packed lunch and heading to the beach for the day and arriving home before dark (the only rule back then!). What a wonderful playground we had!
In summer it’s wonderful to have a variety of beaches to choose from, beaches to swim at, to picnic, to meet friends, to play cricket and to let the children run wild and totally wear themselves out!
I love the beach just as much in winter, rugging up in winter woollies to protect against the elements of Mother Nature and walking along the beach with the wind whipping through your hair and that raw prickling sensation on your skin, which makes you feel alive. After a beach walk, what is better than snuggling up in front of a wood fire and a good glass of mulled wine, who could ask for more?
Regardless of where you live in Tasmania we have many beaches not too far away. It’s not uncommon to be the only person leaving footprints, giving us the freedom to run naked along a long sandy beach (if this is your thing), sing loudly or dance like no one is watching, whatever takes your fancy…
Not only do we have well known beaches that have gained national and global acclaim but also we have smaller local beaches, usually frequented by locals and not yet discovered by the rest of the world! Shhh.
How long has it been since you have discovered Beaumaris Beach? Do you even know where it is? Yes, that’s right, on the East Coast of Tasmania somewhere!
Actually, it’s a 10 minute drive south of the quaint town of St Helens, a beautiful and restful part of the world.
Beaumaris Beach Pad offers a wonderful stay and is a great place to hang up your coat for a couple of days to discover Beaumaris and the surrounding region.
Beaumaris Beach Pad is literally a few steps to the pristine surf beach of Beaumaris on the sunny North East Coast of Tasmania. A great base to explore the Bay of Fires, Freycinet and St Helens. Take long beach walks, surf, swim, or simply relax! A unique space to relax, restore and rejuvenate.
One of my favourite walks (when the weather is not too windy) is the beautiful beach on South Bruny Island found on the Cape Queen Elizabeth Walk. An enjoyable beach and coastal walk with some spectacular scenery, interesting rock formations and you can often have the whole beach to yourself!
Adventure Bay Retreat offers luxury accommodation on 33 acres of open bush land, surrounded by local wildlife. Rest your head for a few days, enjoy the island walks, cook up a storm or relax in the bath…
Choose from a romantic stone spa cottage for two sharing a king size bed with goose down mattress topper or the lodge with three bedrooms, sleeping eight in total. Very Close to the beautiful white sands of Adventure Bay Beach too.
Centrally located on the North West Coast of Tasmania is the quaint seaside village of Turners Beach, the perfect base to explore the many tourist attractions of this diverse region. A favourite beach for locals there’s surf and safe- swimming areas for families and it is truly stunning.
If you secretly desire a quiet beach escape whether it’s a romantic trip with your loved one or a family break, Beach Break Holiday Accommodation is a stunning waterfront house a few steps from the glorious sand of Turners Beach. The passive-solar designed house captures the sun all day long. Look out to sea from the kitchen, dining and living areas and just walk out the large sliding doors to take in the views, or sit back and relax on either of two large north facing outside decks. You can almost reach out and touch the ocean!
Our beaches are often long and expansive with beautiful golden sand; I think we even take this for granted when I think about European beaches of pebbles, stone and the hoards of people. Not only would you pay to park your car (if you can find a park but also for a place to sit on the beach!).
Get out there and explore our local Tasmanian beaches and you might be surprised what little secrets there are to be discovered. Enjoy!
